As the least talented skateboarder in his high school friend group, Jon Ryan Sugimoto earned his way on skate trips not for his skating, but for his ability to secretly “borrow” his mothers expensive new camera. Shortly after creating several skate videos with his friends he attended Los Angeles Film School and fell in love with narrative storytelling. As a working professional he carries his spirit of a skateboarder, but applies the professionalism in his direction. As a half Japanese/half Mexican American he quickly found that belonging to two cultures can sometimes feel like no culture. As he bounces between his cultural identities he finds solace in telling stories about the commonality that all cultures can identify with such as love, humor and existential crisis.
